They see shapes, forms, textures, typography and colors where most people only see billboards, magazine pages, or television ads. This means designers are born with a certain kind of superpower that makes them great visual communicators. But as countless comic books and movies have shown us, anyone with a superpower also has a super weakness to balance out the genes. Could it be that because designers are so good at creation that they are naturally inclined to be terrible presenters of the very work they create?</p> <p><em>My theory is this:</em> You cannot be in love and smart at the same time. Designers by nature are passionate about the work they do. Spending their days researching, decoding, and reassembling the basic elements and design principles of visual communication is no easy task. As a matter of fact it is hard work, and in the modern day of design theater we are asked to do everything twice as fast as the people who came before us, and in some cases with a smaller budget and less help. Therefore most of a designer’s time is spent on getting the work done.
